Technical Writing: Strategies
and Styles, eLearning
How long does a participant spend
completing each module?
The average
participant spends an average of 2 to 2½ hours completing each
module.
Do the participants ever meet with the
person who is reviewing and commenting on their writing?
Each
participant has two webinar meetings with the Technical
Reviewer (writing coach). These meetings enable us to
customize the training and to offer feedback to the participant.
The participant's supervisor is strongly encouraged to "attend"
the webinar meetings.
What happens if a participant has a
vacation scheduled or if he or she can not complete a module
because of hectic work schedules?
One of the
advantages of eLearning is we can adjust your training schedule
to meet your needs. Contact your technical reviewer when you
cannot submit a module on time; he or she will adjust your
schedule accordingly.
How long does it take for the Technical
Reviewer to give each participant feedback on his or her
writing?
Those on the
weekly module-submittal schedule receive feedback within three
business days; those who are on the alternating-week schedule
receive their feedback within one week.
Can a participant request that a
document be reviewed before the due date?
We can not
guarantee that documents will be returned before the scheduled
date. However, if the participant needs the document
back quickly, he or she should note that in the subject line
of the email message. We will do everything we can to
accommodate that request.
What if a participant does not currently
do a lot of writing?
Anyone will benefit from the training. However, those in an
active writing mode will find it most beneficial.
Keep in mind you do not have to
be writing large documents. Submitting smaller documents—even
emails—can provide the insights we need to ascertain the
strengths and areas for improvement evident in your writing.
What if I do not collaborate with others
on my writing; do I have to complete Module 8, the
collaboration module?
No.
If a
participant does not normally collaborate with others on
writing tasks, it would obviously not be productive to cover
Module 8 as designed. We, therefore, suggest a few
alternatives based on our diagnosis of the writing.
The selection
is discussed and agreed upon during the mid-point meeting
(conducted via webinar).
What modules are offered in lieu of
collaboration for Module 8?
Some
popular alternative modules are Conciseness through Reduction.
Email Excellence, Procedure Writing, Proofreading, and Tone.
How can I (or my supervisor) learn more
about the training program?
You can
schedule a short (approximately 30”) webinar at which you will
learn more details and view a sampling of training materials.
